I’ve now owned the TDI for 10 months and have just passed
the 15,000 mile mark. One of the most
difficult parts of writing this blog has been finding things to share. The TDI has continued to perform flawlessly which
has put me in a “no news is good news” position. As much as I would like to have interesting stories
to tell, this car just goes about its business doing what it is supposed to do,
and has given me little to share (this is a good thing!).
Here’s what I can tell you…
When I posted my 10,000 mile update the TDI had averaged
35.912 MPG, and for the 90 days leading up to the 10,000 mile update, had
delivered 36.688 MPG. At the 15,000 mile
mark, overall fuel economy has risen to 36.63 MPG, and over the most recent 90
days has averaged 37.529 MPG. I’ve read a
lot of articles stating that as the diesel motor breaks in, fuel economy rises,
and the numbers that I have recorded certainly support this theory.
I continue to be impressed with the interior space and
overall comfort of the TDI. While I
enjoy seeing my fuel economy numbers climb, I also continue to get enjoyment on
days where I decide to take advantage of the sports car handling and
acceleration delivered by the torque-monster turbo diesel.
10 months and 15,000 miles into my first Volkswagen and
first diesel, and I continue to be very happy with my decision.
If you’re considering purchasing a TDI and have any
questions that I have not answered, please feel free to comment or you can send
me an e-mail at 2011goftdiguy@gmail.com.
Thanks for reading!

I got a 2010 Golf TDI in January with 75,000 miles on it. I just hit 85,000 and it continues to go about its business as you describe. Thanks for putting up this blog, it was very helpful when I was doing research!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and taking the time to comment. I'm glad you found the site useful and I'm happy to hear that your TDI is running strong at 85k. Hopefully that's an indication that these cars are built to last!
